Hi all,
I have a problem with my WinXP SP2 machine. It started since yesterday.
On restarting, I get only the wallpaper, no icons, no taskbar. Mouse is free
but unable to do anything.
I have to do the alt-cont-del , get the task manager up, select file, run
and then browse to c:\windows, and select explorer.exe. Then all came back
in full glory, and PC is as good as normal.
At next restart, same trouble experienced.

I had scanned the system with Avast, latest updates, no virus reported.
Also scanned with adware, no adverse report too.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi

Have you tried a System Restore back to a point before the problem started?

No, I had disabled the system restore bit.
In anycase, my problem had been fixed. I ran the sfc /scannow, with my winxp
cd in and it does it all on its own. Left it scanning and when I returned,
about 2 hrs later, it was done. No error message at all.
So I reboot and presto! I got it all back.

Thanks anyway for the response. Appreciate you time.
