have audio, no video

Hi, I recently downloaded Windows Media Player 11 and when I try to watch
vidoes on the internet, like movie trailers, I get audio but no video. I've
tried re-downloading the player about 3 times and rolling back the player to
WMP 10, but I get the same result. I have another computer and the player
works fine on it.
I downloaded Quicktime and it seems to working fine. I've made WMP my
default player for all the formats. Any ideas? Is it a codec issue?
Everything I've read says that the codecs are automatically downloaded when
you download the player or when you watch an internet video.

Problem solved. You see I have my laptop plugged into my tv and it's set up
to clone my laptop display, so, I keep my laptop lid closed, unless i need to
reach the power button. Well, I opened the lid while a video was playing and
wah-lah, it was playing on the laptop but not the tv. So, after fooling with
the settings in the nVidia control panel I got it to work.
