Try and explain what you burned -
Is it a data CD, composed of WMV files, if so, as a data Cd it
won't be playable on your standalone DVD player.
Is it a VCD (Video Compact Disc) If so then it is made of converted
mpeg1 files types that your standalone DVD player cannot play.

You have a trial version of nero, pay the money and upgrade it
to the full version so that you can author full DVD video discs
that will play on your on your standalone DVD player.

If you want to do everything with freeware then go here:

You will have a lot to learn if you remain relunctant to part with the
money for the full version of the excellent Nero8.
