I currently have a mini-dv camera and a computer that has
fire wire. I have all the connections. I also have an
internal dvd burner. Can I transfer the movies to the
computer using windows movie maker then record them on DVD
in the DVD format using the computers software. OR... will
I have to purchase a third party software.

All I want to do is transfer my movies and thats all. I do
not want any fancy editing. Thankyou for taking the time

Yes, with one exception.  Windows (and MovieMaker) does not have the ability
to burn to any DVD.  However DVD burners usually come with their own
software... you probably have Nero Express or a version of Roxio's EZCD DVD
Creator.

Either of these will re-encode a DV-AVI file to the correct format and burn
a DVD which you should be able to watch  either on your PC or standalone DVD
player.
