recently I connected a combined DV/S-VHS-videorecorder
from JVC, Model HR-DVS1. The XP-HW-assistant recognized at
once the device, as soon as it had been connected to the
built-in IEEE1394 interface of the PC. After that, XP
asked for a device driver. However - same problem as
yours - no such one is available, neither from JVC nor
from Microsoft.

However, the good message is : That interface seems to
interact with my JVC equipment properly, without any
driver support. As soon as you insert a DV tape, you can
control the play function of the JVC videorecorder by a
click at the corresponding button at the moviemaker
program.

A drawback which I found out is that so-called live video
record (i.e. in my case from the TV station chosen at the
VCR tuner) is permanently blocked, although the PC monitor
shows the live pictures.
It seems impossible to make an appropriate configuration
to release that live record blocking. The control option
necessary for this does not appear at all at any control
panel.
So I'm afraid that you may be faced with the same problem
in case of trying to make live records from the video-cam
directly at the hard disk by use of moviemaker program
(without preceding DV tape record).

I had to chose a different video program with "lower
facility intelligence" than MS moviemaker. Adobe premiere
allows to acquire live-offered DV frames at the IEEE1394
interface for direct storage at the hard disk. (Be aware
that your hard disk partition is NTFS formatted, in order
to extend the storage limitation beyond the known limit of
4 GB if formatted with ordinary FAT32!).

I have written emails to JVC and to my PC vendor, and I
hope that one of both may give me some technical support.
