Each time I try to play a dvd on my windows media player, I get an error
encountered message which asks me to send message to windows then it shuts
down. I never get any feedback.

And you probably never will.  No information is sent other than the faulting
module. When Microsoft gets the information, they have no way of know where
it came from.
You should check your Event Viewer for information on which module or file
is causing the
problem, and then do a Google search for that specific problem.
