Video mode not supported

I was changing the resolution on my friend's computer and accidentally set it
to one that isn't supported...now im stuck at a black screen that says video
mode not supported...and i cant get out of it. i tried restarting it and
running the BIOS setup, but i couldnt find anyway to change it. how do i get
out of this?
the system is XP SP2

   Reboot the machine and hold down the F8 button. It will come up in safe
mode and you can change the setting there.
