I returned a PC system for refund, but because I had activated Windows XP, I
am being charged for the recovery disk.  Is it possible to use this disk to
install Win XP?  My present system is on Win 98se but I have two hard disks
and would like a dual boot setup.

Regards and thanks in advance

Say WHAT??
How much were you charged?
I suppose if the retailer must remove the wrapping on the recovery disk in
order to return the machine to "factory" condition, they feel the disk is no
longer "unused," but then, neither is the machine it will be sold with!
If you were charged more than $10, you ought to demand an accounting, at the
very least.
Unfortunately, a recover disk will only work on the machine it was designed
to install on.

What your vendor did is nonsense. But in any case, "charging" is one issue--
*collecting* is another.

Simply dispute the entire charge for the full purchase price to your credit
card issuer (in writing) and demand a charge-back. You did pay by credit
card, didn't you;-)
