dear newsgroup,

would appreciate help. i want to:

1. delete list of files or folders that i have ever searched on my xp
machine (this is shown as auto-complete function when i use the search
function)

2. delete list of commands that i have ever put in the run command box (when
i go to run box, the auto-complete function brought up list of things that i
have run in the past)

3. ultimately disable this 'memorization' auto-complete facility on both
search and run function

i am using xp pro sp2.

thank you,
jes

Tools, Internet Options. Clear History

Also change 20 to 0

This clear will filter through Windows as well.

Hi

Right click on the Start button, then select Properties>Customize.  Click on
'Clear'.

hi will,

thanks for your advice but it did not work.

your suggestion cleared the run box but did not have the same desired effect
on the search function. when i go to search and inserted a letter in the 'a
word or phrase in the file' box, the auto-complete function still brought up
lists of all the search terms that begins with that letter.

regards,

Control Panel/Internet Options/Content tab, click on 'autocomplete' and
change your settings here.

This only clears "My Recent Documents" list.  that is not the question
asked.  You should read the questions before posting replies.  Also try
the solution on your system before suggesting it to a novice!

Did you close down the browser and rebooted the system?

Scroll or search for : Clear History

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru.  Delete the key. To
prevent keeping a history altogether, right click ACMru/Permissions/Deny all users
and groups listed.

So, I tried this and I still can not get the autocomplete on my search
function to clear. Which tweak did you use?
