I need to know what driver I need to download so that my ipod classic will
work. It shows that there is a malfunction. Can anyone tell me what driver I
need? I have windows XP it was preloaded in the computer when I got it.

What sort of "malfunction"? What is the error message? What version of
iTunes for Windows do you have?
And finally ... for best results, ask your question, making sure to
include answers to all of the above, at *ONE* of the following:

The malfunction error just says there was an malfunction in the device. a
word bubble pop up in the corner by my clock. I have the most updated Itones.
The people at applestore said to run the classic I need a different version
of windows XP but I dont want to spend $100 for the whole program when I can
just up grade the drives.

The statement that the people at applestore made -- to run the classic
you need a different version of windows XP -- is complete and utter BS.
If the Apple support doc at the link in my "p.s." post didn't help, then
ask your question in one of the Apple forums. The problem may well be
"with Windows XP" but the people who hang out in the Apple forums are
*much* more familiar with the interactions between iPods and Windows
than the people here.

p.s.: see if this helps:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136
(if it was me, I'd try the "reinstall" option at the bottom of the
article first and the search for drivers at Windows Update last, if at all)

Hi - I'm sorry to hear that, but here are a couple of things to consider:
1) You seem to be replying to an existing message "thread," but you are
asking a new question that is not related to the original post. Avoid doing
this - always post new questions directly as new messages/posts.
2) You haven't provided anywhere near enough detail for us to do more than
just guess. When you post always provide as much background detail as
possible. See "Help us to help you" at http://dts-l.net/goodpost.htm for
some guidelines/advice on how to compose a good newsgroup post.

Did you look through the Troubleshoot assistant?
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
Earlier model ipods.

Any version of XP should work, but you may well need SP2 installed. The
error message isn't complete enough to be much help.. If you have SP2,
click Start, Run, type SFC /SCANNOW, click OK. If any files are damaged
or missing, they'll be replaced. You may need to reboot afterwards so
damaged files will be replaced.
