How does one disable the short musical ditty that plays on startup and
shutdown?

Thanks

Hi Ken,

Open Control Panel and Sounds & Audio Devices.  Click on the Sounds tab
and scroll down to "Start Windows" and in the "Sounds" drop down, select
(None). You may also have to check "Windows Logon" also.
