Recently I signed up for internet service after an absence of a couple of
years.  Shortly afterwards I started getting automatic upgrades from
Microsoft.  This was fine except the process added 184 folders with files to
my computer which has the Windows XP Home operating system.  The folders are
all marked as $NTUninstall......  The dots represent letters, symbols and
numbers after the word uninstall.  I haven't checked the size of each folder
but there are some that exceed 1.5MB.  This is obviously taking up a great
deal of space on my hard drive which doesn't sit well with me.  My question
is:  Can I deletes these folders without affecting the operation of my
application programs?  Can someone give me a definitive answer?  It would be
appreciated.

These folders contain the uninstall information for 184 separate
Windows updates.  They are there in case you must uninstall one of the
updates.  Deleting them should be completely safe, and shouldn't cause
any problems with the normal operation of your OS.

If you are worried about a folder exceeding 1.5MB in size in these
days of cheap 500GB drives, you should definitely get a newer (and
much larger) hard drive.

Anyway, you will be safe to delete those folders.

That was useful to me as well. Does the advice also apply to $hf_mig$ which
seems to contain "KB" files

You probably should wait some time before deleting to make sure you don't
need to uninstall anything.
