Hi everyone-
I purchased a Compaq Presario V2310US laptop-
it had Windows XP installed- and it was running great.
I upgraded the memory in the machine to 2 gigs and decided to re-install
Windows XP a week after doing so.
I wanted to do a complete wipeout and re-install of Windows XP- this laptop
has its own Windows XP license attached to it but no CD so I used my Window
XP w/SP2 disk that I purchased a couple of years ago (when I had a machine
that needed it)
The laptop has it's own product key to go with its license of Windows XP- so
I used it's own product key to reinstall it.
I inserted my Windows XP CD and did a complete re-install
everything looks ok so far except for the following:
I LOST Hibernate & Standby capacity- I cannot find it anywhere and even
when I go to power management, it is greyed out- when I shut down and the
window comes up to confirm- Standby is greyed out & not selectable.
BOTH options were available before I did the re-install-
Did I do something wrong? Do I need to re-install Windows XP again?
Someone please help!
thank you

Check the HP web site for the latest drivers for your Compaq. Standby and
Hibernate missing is a good indication that you need to install the drivers for
you video card/display adapter.
Odds are that your Presario came with a hidden partition that contained the
files need to complete a restore process. This process would install a fresh
copy of XP along with the drivers for your laptop's hardware devices. Since you
used a generic OEM XP CD, you'll now have to go to the web site listed below and
download the latest drivers for your laptop.
