when I run a backup I get a "write protect error"
the message is: "the disk cannot be written to because it is write
protected.  Please remove the write protection from the volume in
drive\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy1
Has anyone encountered this?

What are you backing up to?
Have you followed the advice above?

backing up to a an external drive.  When I get the message I can cancel it
but I never had to do this untill I installed "shadow" and have since deleted
it.
I am trying to find the advice above you mentioned with no success.
