I had to reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows MCE 2005 on my Dell XPS
400, using the reinstallation DVD. However, there are now two problems. One,
there is no sound, even though Device Manager shows "audio codecs." Second,
an attached ethernet cable is not recognized, and Device Manager shows a
yellow exclamation mark (no driver) for "Ethernet Controller," as well as for
PCI Device, PCI Simple Communications Controller, SM Bus Controller, Unknown
Device, and Video Controller (VGA Compatible). So I cannot connect to my
router and get online. Any help will be appreciated.

Did your Dell come with a Resources CD? If so, you can use it to install drivers
for your network adapter as well as the other problem devices listed in Device
Manager. If you didn't get that CD, do the following;
Look on the back of your computer for a sticker with a bar code and a 7
character alphanumeric code. This is your system's service tag. Go to this web
site, enter the service tag, and download the latest drivers for all your
hardware devices.

Get drivers and install tthe drivers you need. I would just
download/install them all if you are unsure.
