Background: I did a restore to a previous restore point to try and fix a
font install issue which seemed to work OK. Since then I can’t use the
search option in XP. I am running XP Professional SP2.
Issue: So when I click on the (magnifying glass / search icon) on any file
folder the search companion window starts to open and then just hangs.
I have tried to do different restore points, but nothing seems to make a
difference.
Question: Is there a way to do a Windows OS re-install so that I can keep
all of my programs as is, while fixing this issue? Better solution?
Thanks

Click or right click?
Please post a complete copy of the Error Report from Event Viewer.
You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.
A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Well, if you just want to search, try Agent Ransack. Free, faster, better.

WHAT HE SAID!
I even use it in Vista rather than use the built-in search utility.
