How To Ask Questions The Smart Way
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
Thanx for both of you:
the processor is: Intel(r) Pentium(r) processor M 2.0 GHz (centrino)
the memory is : 2 GB (2 x 1024) DDR RAM (PC2700, 333 MHz)
Video Memory : 64 MB dedicated DDR RAM
I dont have any problems with the system being "slow" but i would like to
know if there is a method to control the time intervals taken by the
animations done by windows XP, Such as minimizing or maximizing an
application, the fading menues, the drop down menues, etc..
for example: lets assume it takes 300 milli-second for a drop-down menu to
fade out, is it possible to make the interval 150 milli-second instead :-)
many thanx

The only adjustment that I know of (on my machine, at least) is one
for 3D rendering.
If you're running one of the versions with the Aero interface, it's
memory-intensive.
You might take a look at all the things you can eliminate and see if
that helps speed things up:
Control Panel (Classic view)
Performance Information and Tools
Adjust Visual Effects

There's no Aero interface on Windows XP (thank goodness). It's only on
Vista, and hopefully it stays there. His computer is not fast enough to run
Vista to begin with, So Vista would never be a problem.
Pentium M (as in Mobile) has very poor media performance. Even 2D animation
is hard for it because its memory communication is slow. It's basically a
Celeron with more, but slower, cache.

I gotta remember what group I'm replying to <vlush>. I'm running
Vista but still follow the XP group.

Hi Jake,
I didn't know exactly what "animations" you were looking at, but in the
context of menus, TweakUI has an option under "Mouse" to adjust the
speed of the cascading menus open.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
Scroll down the right to select TweakUI.exe. Make sure you don't
download the one for "Itanium-based systems" unless you have that (64
bit Intel w/64 bit Windows).
