I've been trying to synchronize my XP SP2 clock via the internet and I keep
getting "An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with
time.nist.gov" or "time-nw.nist.gov". I suspect it might be Zone Alarm
firewall that might be blocking the process but am not sure what I should
tell ZA to allow. Of course it might not be ZA that is at fault.

Any suggestions?

Use atomic clock. available as freeware.
Not sure of what other issues could be causing your problem without more
detail.

Try both options with ZA. Keep the correct one. :-)

It is nothing to do with Zonealarm.  Most time server sites have changed the
format of the time information to match that required by Vista.

Change your time server to "time-a.nist.gov" and that should fix it.

You are correct.  Thank you.  That did it.

Is there a way to remove the other time servers I now have in the drop down
server list to avoid using them by accident in the future?

Not that I know of.

Hi Jeff

They are listed in the registry under:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DateTime\Servers]
