Whenever I change anything on my desktop or on my Start Menu, everyone else's
desktop or Start Menu is affected also, to the point where it is exactly the
same as mine. I know there is a fix for this and I believe a very simple one
but for the life of me I can't remember what it is. Can anyone help?

Your Desktop is created by combining the shortcuts from these two folders.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

C:\Documents and Settings\YourAccount\Desktop

Your Start menu is created by combining the shortcuts from these two folders.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu

C:\Documents and Settings\YourAccount\Start Menu

Bottom line is that each user will see shortcuts stored in the All Users
folders. If you delete a shortcut from your Desktop or Start menu and it was
stored in the corresponding All Users folder, it will no longer appear on the
other users desktop or Start menu. For that reason, if you don't want to see
these items, but still want other users to have access, move the shortcuts from
the All Users folder into the corresponding folder for their user accounts.

Good luck
