When trying to backup my entire system using the XP backup tool, I continue
to get these two errors:

Error: Could not access portions of directory System State\COM+ Class
Registration Database.
You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be
missing or damaged.
Please contact the owner or administrator.

How can I run a full system backup and not get this error?

This is just a guess, but ... check to see that "Shadow Copy" Services
is not disabled in Services.  Go to ...Adminstrative Tools; Services.
It almost sounds like it's gagging on files that are in use and shadow
copy is one thing could do that.

As sort of a test, see if you can just back up the System State (a
wizard choice if you can't find it in the tree).  It's much faster and
is the subject of one of the errors you mentioned.  When it will run the
full backup will probably run.

Meanwhile, you could still go ahead and back up at least your important
data and then come back and get the operating system portion.

Sorry; that's all that occurs to me at the moment.

I went in and turned the Shadow Copy Services on and ran a system state only
backup which worked without any problems.  When I then tried to run a full
backup, I receive the same error messages.  Any ideas?
