XP goes on standby and on "wake up" I have lost my connection..why?

My machine running XP Pro SP3 is set to go on standby S3 after about
15 minutes.

Usually I can wake it up with no trouble, but lately it seems upon
that wake up call I have lost my internet connection. For years this
machine was fine configured like I mentioned and it never failed to
maintaint the connection. What's gone wrong now?

How are you waking it up? What type internet connection?

A Windows XP SP3-based computer loses wireless connectivity when it resumes
from standby or from hibernation, or you receive an error message when you
try to put the computer in standby or in hibernation:

Hi PABear,

I should have told you that I have a cable connection to my
machine,thats the one that loses the connection. The other machine is
in another room and that one is wireless and that seems fine.

The KB article seems to address only wireless connections. Sorry I
didn't tell you guys that to start with.

Whether it's wireless or not, the solution can be the same; don't allow
[the NIC, Ethernet card, USB port, whatever connects the computer to the
modem/router] to be turned off while in Standby mode.

Try the fix in KB951447 anyway.
