Hi PABear,
I should have told you that I have a cable connection to my
machine,thats the one that loses the connection. The other machine is
in another room and that one is wireless and that seems fine.
The KB article seems to address only wireless connections. Sorry I
didn't tell you guys that to start with.

Whether it's wireless or not, the solution can be the same; don't allow
[the NIC, Ethernet card, USB port, whatever connects the computer to the
modem/router] to be turned off while in Standby mode.

Try the fix in KB951447 anyway.
