Hi,
I was recovering my winxp installation and trying to resolve an hangup
problem (35 minute remaining hangup) i made an error. From recovery
console (WinXp BootCD -> R) i tryied FixBoot and FixMdr command.
After that i can't go on.
With or without Boot CD system stop on a black screen where i can see
only mouse arrow.
If i try to restart all recovery process (Boot with cd >
Enter>F8>R>Enter) the problem still exist.
After first reboot (at blue screen procedures) all stop in a black
screen after winxp logo startup.
Can you help me? I can't solve with a format because is not possible
for this moment.
Thankyou.

You may have to boot your machine with your WinXP installation
CD and perform a repair installation. Do you have backups of all
your important files, including your EMail files? Why is a format not
possible at this moment?

Because i have to reinstall too much program for start to work and i
can't do that in this days.
I gave to restart with work tomorrow. There are no way to solve this
problem.

If i try to perform a repair installation i follow all the steps in
the blu screen but after reboot and after winxp logo (before loading
installation graphic interface) it hangup in a black screen whee i can
see only mouse arrow. There are no mothod to solte this lock?
Before when i start my work i could saw installation graphic interface
but now i can't i have done only FixMdr and FixBoot.

In situations where a high availability of a PC is required, appropriate
precautions must be taken in advance, e.g.
- Provide access to a backup PC
- Use an imaging program such as Acronis TrueImage so that you
can restore a failed installation in less than 30 minutes.

If you haven't taken any of these precautions then you could try
one of these methods:
- Press F8 during the early boot phase, then select "Last known good
configuration"
- Perform a manual System Restore (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545)

I can't perform manualy this because i have not c:\windows\repair
\system  file.

The commands fixboot and fixmbr will only affect the boot
behaviour of Windows. They have no effect on the rest of
the installation. Since Windows does start on your machine,
I suspect that the problem is caused by something else, e.g.
by a damaged registry. You can repair it using the method
I gave you in my previous reply but you must read the whole
article. Using the registry kept in the Repair folder is only the
first step. There are other copies, e.g. this one:
C:\System Volume
Information\_restore{D86480E3-73EF-47BC-A0EB-A81BE6EE3ED8}\RP1\Snapshot
The process to retrieve it is described in detail in that article.

Machines that have a damaged boot environment but an intact
Windows installation can be booted with a WinXP boot disk
or boot CD. Here is how to make such a disk:
- Format a floppy disk on a WinXP PC.
- Copy these files from the i386 folder of the WinXP installation
  CD to A:\
  ntldr
  ntdetect.com
- Create a file a:\boot.ini with these lines inside:
[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /noexecute=optin

In the maintime i tryied another way. Ihave installed another instance
of winxp in teh second partition. (D:\) From second installation i
have copyied
all registry settin from C:\System Volume Information
\_restore{D86480E3-73EF-47BC-A0EB-A81BE6EE3ED8}\RP1\Snapshot to c:
\windows\system32\config (renaming it) now there is a litle change.
Screen is still black bat arrow is changed. I see that the definition
is the standard definition but nothing more. screen is still black.
Thankyou.
