Sorry for asking an XP question here, but I couldn't find a newsgroup on XP.
I have a five year old Dell laptop with Windows XP that someone gave me
recently.  Half the time, whenever you click or right-click on anything, a

I have a 80 GB HDD. I want to install windows 98 in it. Can I use FDISK
command from the win 98 booting floppy ( I have read that for HDD > 64GB, it
does not display correct HDD size ) ? What should be the max. size of a
partition that FAT32 can support ?

   I installed a 20G HDD in my Windows 98se computer.  With one partition,
I formatted it.  The results is 16K byte clusters.   With a FAT32 system,
a 32 bit number ("index") can represent around 4.3G.  This in effect should
allow around 4 billion clusters maximum.

The volume control is gone and I have no sounds.  I have gone to Start /

Control Panel / Multimedia, and the 'show volume control on taskbar' is

home. I recently attempted to transfer a 1.1gb file from an aging
win98 laptop to an XP one.  They're both connected via the Netgear
router which I use for interenet access, the win98 one via ethernet

When I start system in SAFE Mode I still have the problem.  However, using
Win98SE ScanDisk / Defrag I do get the message "Scan Disk Cannot Continue
Because A Program Such As A Disk Utility Has Locked This Drive.  Close The
Program Or Wait For It To Finish, Then Restart ScanDisk"  ...

For several years I have been using a HP Officejet G55 on my Windows 98/SE.
Now I also have a Vista computer. I had to install the drivers on the 98 for
the printer, and it works just fine on the Vista. But now I can't use the
