After removing AOL from my window 2000, which used their version of IE6, can't connect to internet! Trys to launch AOL IE6 and then get error message about can't connect to internet. Help?

Just a quick post to tell people about a quick fix the "dns error" in windows XP. I had tried all the "cache" fixes with no joy. However this one works with no need to reboot or reconnect.

A while back ago, I used AT&T for my ISP. It installed a "customized" version of IE 5. When I upgraded to IE 6, the customized version is still there. I then went in and un-installed IE 6 completely using add/remove programs.

I dont have my original disk for windows 2000...internet explorer needs to be restored to its original format...viruses have somehow altered the tabs and the content of the internet options box under the tools command...please help!!!

My IE 6 has no proxy set yet it use cache:8080 when connecting to Windows update. Does anyone know how to by-pass this cache which prevent WU download to work?
