What would make the contact folder dropdown in the "Select Recipients"

A friend upgraded his Win98 machine to XP home edition and since then has
not been able to "open" any emails without crashing OE.
The program opens intially, and downloads new emails. But reading them is
where the program crashes. We did try doing a window update, and a defrag.

I have created junk mail folders for several of my clients to filter spam
out of their inboxes.  It works well until they accidently delete the junk
mail folder.
Is there any way to protect the junk mail folder from being deleted?  Thanks

I had some responses to this question and tried some suggestions following
the link to microsoft suggest I save the registry and remove all accounts.
I did that and all that thid was remove my list of newgroups.  Good thign
the emails stayed though.  Okay back to basics with this.
