On a Windows Server 2003, I use Internet Explorer to navigate the web.
Internet Explorer use a proxy server with an authentification to connect
to the web.

Every time OE checks for new messages I get the 'new e-mail' icon and the
beep in my toolbar, whether there's a new message or not.
This new glitch coincided with my downloading of Symantec's 'Norton 2007'
anti-virus package but they've helped me trouble-shoot and are convinced

seems my girlfriend lost one of her Email folders in Outlook Express 6.0,
windows Xp.
Now it is possible she moved it by accident and that it became a sub-folder
Or that she deleted it

I compact folders each night manually in OE and have never had any issues
with this procedure. The folders compress and that's it.
Just tonight, OE started copying all the dbx files to the recycle bin as I
manually compress. They show up there with a BAK extension.

I did something - not sure what.  I now have copies of all my numerous email
folders sitting in the recycle bin, with .bak extensions.  The originals
seem to be unaffected, as I an access them all in "local folders".
1.  How did the backups get created?

I just upgraded to IE7 and I opened my email - Outlook Express 6.0 and I am
only showing brand new emails in my inbox.  All of my folders and saved
emails are gone.  I tried to search for the hidden .dbx files and it came up
with no files when I searched...Please help!

fter the last recommended upgrade from Microsoft my Outlook Express changed
where the emails were stored. I fixed it by pointing to the proper area.
What I cant’t fixed is that OE shows all messages in newsgroups with this

uninstall OE 6 on XP Home SP2, then re-booted and re-installed it, but the
unwanted search toolbar from the ISP, added without my permission, and the
banner claiming falsely that Outlook Express is ...

attachment paper clip icon even when they do not have an attachment.

In a number of newsgroups I use the 'watched messages' function where the
thread is highlighted red and in bold when a new message arrives. Recently
one of my ms newsgroups is red bold even though there are no new messages in
any of the watched threads.
