FIND_MESSAGE never finds any messages modified in 2007. Very annoying!!! How can I fix this?

I use IE 6 on a laptop. Many times I find a web site which contains links
(in blue) to other sites. Mostly these links do not take me to the new site
when I click on them. I suspect I have IE 6 configured wrongly.
Can anyone help me make these links work?

I just installed a new version of XP Pro and have OE 6 installed.  I've also
installed Power Point viewer 2007.  I can't run Power Point files from
within OE.  I've tried PPSFix but it is looking for Power Point Viewer 2003.

Working under XP sp2, Internet Explorer 7, OE6
Over the weekend I switched from dial-up to broadband.
OE 6 now fails to send or receive email and it has been so many years I
cannot recall how to configure it anew.

On the first download, after subscribing to a newsgroup, I sometimes get
thousands of email.  Some going back several years.  Then I have to go
through and delete all the old ones.
