I am under the impression that leaving the Preview Pane open is making it

 When I start Outlook Express 6 (Win XP Pro SP2), "task manger" shows 2
instances of Outlook Express 6 in the non-responding mode. Then one Outlook
Express disappears and the other is running fine.

In the weeks after IE7 became available, I recall reading lots of reports of

My computer crashed today, but I had my email files on a thumb drive.  I put
it in my wife's computer and changed the location of the email files to my
thumbdrive.  Worked fine.
But I can't change it back!
