WHENEVER I TRY TO LINK TO CERTAIN PAGES OR GO TO CERTAIN SITES IE JUST CLOSES

I can connect to the internet but i can't view webpages from within Internet
explorer.  I'm running windows me, if i open a msdos box, I can use the ping

to something from netscape or wherever.  The window opens and its content is
accessible. Once you try to CLOSE this window, IE hangs and gives the "IE has
