I cannot view any PDF files directly from any website that I go to. When I try to do so, all that loads on my computer is a blank white screen with a red "X" box in the upper left corner of the screen. And I have downloaded

The most recent instance was on a message board. A guy posted a picture within the message, but all I saw was the infamous red "X" in the little box. Based on subsequent posts in that thread, one other person couldn't see it, but four or five others did.

IE has been working fine until today when I applied the available Windows Updates, and now IE gives me the above error window whenever I try to start it. I am on Windows 2000 Professional SP 4, I've loaded IE 6.0 SP1, still the same thing. Any suggestions?
