I've been having problems w/ red x's appearing on web pages instead of pics,gif's, etc. I have cleaned my cache numerous times, and I tried creating the registry key UseHR. Neither one worked, and now I am stuck. Any help

Everytime I try to either download or install from a disc, I get a message that there is a pending install that requires a reboot and I must restart computer. Have done this many times with no results. Any help out there?
