Whenever I double click internet explorer it will not open. It seems like it is doing something for a couple seconds and then I get dead silence. I check the task manager and it is under processes just not programs. How can I fix this?

I have been trying to clear history of my usage in IE6. The normal history information I have managed to clear but what is stumping me is the history of searches conducted in Search engines such as Yahoo or Lycos for example.
