I've been trying to get into a Web address on my computer at home, have
managed on my works computer but always get "page cannot be displayed" at
home.  I have gone through what it suggests but still no joy

On two PCs under XP , from time to time, the hosts file is emptied.
Sometimes after a reboot, sometimes not.
both are communicating through checkpoint on a LAN.
Nothing appears (or I didn't notice it) in the event logs.

Sometimes I get this message in IE: "The webpage is unavailable
because you are offline ...".  I have a cable connection, and I don't
want it to go off-line.  Is there a setting to tell it to stay

Something keeps setting my browser to certain www.apeha.ru as its home page.
Is this a sort of a virus? How do I get rid of it?

If I click on a hyper link in email or on a web page IE6 opens the new dialog
box but then shuts down the original box. Can't use Back button from new box
and it won't allow multiple IE boxes to be open at one time.  I can't think
of any changes I've made to cause this from ...

A friend of mine has a bunch of URL's and folders saved under her
Windows Favorites list that can't be deleted. Based of the names of
them, they seem to have been placed there by spyware/malware etc. I
have run multiple spyware and malware programs and deleted everything.
