I'm trying to create a windows 98 or windows ME virtual machine using the
latest build of Virtual PC 2004 (build 582). The host machine is a windows
2000 server with the latest service packs and fixes (I use NTFS partitions
to host the VM files but have even tried with FAT32 ...

I updated from VirtualPC 5.2 to 2004 and now my XP Por
Host System (SP1) freezes a few seconds after I started
the Guest OS. I tried to load the VHD Image created by
version 5.2 (Win98, DOS, Mandrake Linux). This problem

I have software which only runs in DOS, which works great
in Virtual PC, but booting from a captured "A" drive is
not what I want to do ( I keep losing those darned
diskettes).

After 5-10 mins of running redhat9 in VPC2004 it loses the
keyboard, closing X and back to bash, sometimes get the
same thing on cmd line. Only fix is a restart of the VM
session (have to just close it as cant type shutdown).

When I set networking for a guest (in VPC2004 build 582) to "Shared network
(NAT)", I get the DNS-servers from our network, but do not get the
WINS-server.
How do I get the DHCP-server in VPC's NAT to relay the WINS-server from our

VPC 2004 seems to run FreeBSD just fine, but hangs on me

Maybe this idea is too crazy, but does Microsoft have any
plan to make VPC to emulate PowerPC(Mac)? So people can

Just food for MS thought...
The VPC Console Options include Performance Options. The "Run Virtual PC at
maximum speed" looks like it only effects behavior when the guest is funning
in background. In fact, it seems to effect it in all states. From a user's

I just upgraded to VPC2004 and compared to speed on VPC
5.2..its just too slow..
I've installed the VM additions..
I might go back to 5.2..
