I use a virtual pc with Windows XP. A smartcard reader (Omnikey CardMan 2011) is connected to the serial port. Normally the system recognizes the reader but not in the virtual pc. Com1 and com2 are set to use the physical serial port.

KBA 883775 talks about device driver protection keeping Virtual PC/Windows CE emulator from working. Does this apply to all Virtual PC build or just Windows CE emulator builds? If it applies to all builds is there an updated device driver available for virtual pc?

I have Windows XP Pro running on my host, and I have installed Windows Server 2003 on my virtual machine. I installed the Microsoft loopback adapter on the host, and configured it with the classic IP: 192.168.1.1 (subnet mask: 255.255.255.0).
