Anyone tried to install XP+virtual pc on window 2000 server?09 Dec 2004 19:53 GMT2
I tried a trial version of virtual pc, when I reach to the step XP allocate
disk, I found it shows my primary disk as a unallocated space, so I didn't
dare to go on, it seems it tried to format the disk where my window 2000
system is. I was thinking it should try to use the space ...

I am trying to install virtual pc 2004 on win xp pro sp2, but it keeps
failing with the error 1305: error reading from file.....verify that the file
exists. I know that VMNetSrv.sys is on the cd rom.

I've tried everything I can think of. The device manager thinks the thing is
working, until of course you try diagnostics on it. Also, Hyperterm can't
seem to talk to it either.

firstI realize XP Pro is "required", but is anyone successfully running
virtual PC on XP Home edition? Would like to try Virtual PC before buying XP
Pro to be sure I want it enough to justify both purchase and upgrade.
If yes, any particular "gotcha's" to look out for?

I have 2 virtual machines using the same virtual hard disk. The virtual hard
disk is of a fixed size.
When I make changes to the disk from the first VM, I can see the changes on
the disk on that VM, however when I use the second VM, the disk changes are

Using VPC SP1. Have installed a clean XP SP2 guest which runs fine. Added NAV
2005 which installs fine but after the reboot the CPU runs at 100% for ever
(or until I kill the NAV processes). Haven't been able to find anything on

Installed Virtual PC 7 on Mac G4 with OS 10.3.6.  Tried to setup Windows XP
Pro in Virtual PC.  The drivers loaded, but when the status bar said
"starting windows", the screen filled with question marks and froze.  Any
similar experiences?
