We cannot communicate with a PLC controller through the COM1 port when using
VPC with the host being Windows 2000 and the Virtual PC being Windows 98.
The hour glass appears then it times out.   Any ideas?

For the fourth time in a week, when Virtual PC 2004 is running and I move a

MAC Address conflic with virtual Nics.22 Apr 2005 17:50 GMT5
In order to create multiple machines in VPC I start with a basic OS
installation and then copy the files and rename to create more machines. I
rename the "machinename" in the OS and alter the SID with Ghost.  However
the MAC address of the Nic is the same and so the virtual machies ...

I have installed Ubuntu/linux on a VPC disk and every thing proceeds fine
until I get to the final graphic screen where it tries to set the resolution
to 1600x600x8 and that is completely unreadable.  I snipped the code out of
the unbutu.vmc file as follows:

I'm running W2K with 1GB.  I've created a virtual machine with 512MB.  I

VPC plus old NT disk and new XP upgrade disk equals too small partition22 Apr 2005 08:31 GMT8
I bought the VPC version that does not include the OS.  I used my own
WinXP disk, but it was an upgrade disk requiring an installed OS to
start.  Since all I had on hand was an NT disk, I created an NT
partition and installed NT with sp6 (The upgrade disk required NT's
DVD support...22 Apr 2005 03:39 GMT1
I have seen in many other threads on this forum questions/comments
surrounding DVD image support (or lack there of) in Virtual PC. Barring the
technical reasons that may or may not make sense, why on earth does this
product not support DVD devices themselves.
Hypervisor21 Apr 2005 21:07 GMT1
Is the hypervisor technology that Microsoft announced today would be
part of Longhorn going to be a seperate deal from Virtual PC?  Or is it
a complementary technology?

Okay I have heard this term and am stumped - where do I get this or how do I
get this setup. Forgive me for such a simple and probably dumb question. Your
help is greatly appreciated.

How can I hide a network device to the host, but use it in the vir21 Apr 2005 15:52 GMT3
Ist it possible to hide a network device, so that the host can't use the
device, but the virtual machine has the possibility to use the network device.
It's important that the host machine can't use that device, caused of the
group policies.
Is VPC a viable environment to live on, moving it to & from a lapt21 Apr 2005 13:35 GMT6
SkI'm a software developer.  I'm tired of living on my Dell Latitude laptop

need to travel now and then with my entire desktop. I'm thinking (as Fred
Langa recently suggested to me) that I run VPC on a ...

Hi All,  This is probably a common question, but is it possible to reduce the
