I keep getting a DOS error 'Windows protection Error You need to
restart your system'? Keeps happing? Anyone know how to fix this

when there is NO FLOPPY DISK IN THE FLOPPY

In oder to back up a file, we go as follows:
start-->programs-->accessories-->System Tools-->backup
Following System Tools, I am getting 3 other choices viz.
Disk Defragmenter, DriveSpace and Scan Disk.
