I compressed a start up drive and when I try to uncompress this drive, it tells me to run scandisk as there is a problem on the drive. I run the scandisk and it reports that there is no problem. I then try to uncompress again

I read on the web that you can get 5VDC from the cable that supplies power to drives (i.e. hard drive). I connected a wire to a free power connector and did get the 5VDC. Then all of a sudden the computer turned off and wil not turn back on. I am guessing that I accidentally short

My daughter's computer is a Win 98 SE, IBM PC 300 GL. She reinstalled the operating system from the Microsoft CD. This problem has been around prior to the reinstall -- the reinstall did not help it.
