When trying to defragment, the computer appears to be
working, but I never see any results.  I can start to
defragment at night and in the morning it appears that the
computer is still working on it, but shows no results.

I had win98se installed by a private computer company, now
defunct.  Win98se is on my hard drive but I don't have the
product code to enable me to re-install it after a virus
screwed me up.  How can I get the product code?  Right now

Win98-SE - If I click and open my computer, the puter tries to scan A:
for an inserted disk, everything is fine but just the clicking of it,
plus the pause of having to wait for it to finish is really getting on
my nerves now. I`ve tried disabling the drive in system properties,

I need to boot from the CD ROM drive, how can I get the PC
to recgonise the CD-ROM as a bootable drive

Does anyone know where I can get some good step-by-step
instructions on how to PROPERLY & SAFELY reformat my HD
for Windows 98? Is there a "for dummies" book available or
some info on Microsoft.com?

Some one please help me, before I have a meltdown!
Here is my problem:
I recently had cable internet service installed. I found
out after that my computer did not have an ehternet port

I have some files which i copied onto a Maxtor USB
harddrive from my office computer running XP.
When I connect the same harddrive to my home computer
running 98 on A HP pavilion the hard drive is detected

The OS on this computor got corrupted so the hard drive
was formatted. The system was rebooted on a WIN98 boot
disk from another machine and I clicked on the option to
start with CD support. I can view the contents on the E:

When I attempt to load one particular CD in my CDRW I get
a blue screen and the following Windows 98 error code, A
fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:c14cce9f in VXD
c2udffs (01) 000168df. What the!?? Can anyone explain this

Can anyone tell me how I fix a problem with my hard
drive. Its ment to be a 6.4 gig drive but after I
installed Win98 it now said its a 2.1 gig. Its also

A technician who works for a local computer vendor told me that
running Win98 on a 40 GB or higher capacity HDD will damaged the hard
drive. Is this true? He adviced me to go for Windows XP which I am not
keen on. He mentioned this after a relatively new 40 GB hard drive
