It looks like I have to wipe my C: drive and reinstall
Win98. But once the drive is wiped, how do you install?
Will it just start running if I put the Win98 disk in the
drive?  How can it even recognize the CD drive?

Is it possible?14 Aug 2003 16:23 GMT3
I'm curious. Basically, to cut to the chase, I have a hard drive that errr,
died on me (neither the Bios nor Windows will detect it). As I have no spare
internal power cables (all taken up by my drives), I am wondering if it is
possible to run an internal hard drive, externally. ...

Windows 98 crashes very frequently and has to be manually
switched off. The Scandisk which follows on reboot shows
that in the File System check there was a lost cluster.

I have a CD rom, 'My computer' shows 'removable disk' as D

recognises my CD Rom, not a removable disk, therefore
cannot uninstall removable disk and install cd as already

Ayone out there: using windows 98, how is the data
contained on a floppy retrieved and stored on the hard

my second attempt at getting an answer. Thank you.
How can I uninstall Fat 3213 Aug 2003 17:33 GMT4
I want to uninstall Fat 32 because I've been advised not
to use it on my old almost-full computer.  I'm trying to
free up space, but not by compressing disks.  Can anyone
tell me how to safely uninstall Fat 32?
Backup to USB13 Aug 2003 15:28 GMT2
I installed a 30 gig external usb drive to backup a 18 gig
internal drive.  Microsoft Backup will only let me backup
to Type "File" and to a ".qic" file.  Problem is that
after 4 gigs, it asks for new media.  My guess is that QIC
floppy drive is more active than it should be13 Aug 2003 03:08 GMT1
The floppy drive makes a noise every half an hour or so
(which lasts for about 5 mins) It sounds like it is trying
to read a floppy disk although I haven't asked it to and
there is nothing in there anyway.
