Scenario: An old Compaq 5120C, a new EIDE/ATAPI CD-ROM drive (the Compaqs first CD drive), a freshly formatted FAT hard drive, an official copy of MS Win98 SE with boot disk.

I'm running Windows 98SE & have an ATAPI CD-ROM drive installed... my problem is when I try & read a recently burnt CD (ie. from one of my friends) I get the following message;

Scandisk just reallocated my lost clusters to free space and now my d drive is clear. Is there anything I can do to get my missing files/directories back?? i haven't shut down my computer nor wrote anyhting the the drive in

after downloading win98 on my computer it came to when it asked me re-inset the 98 and it showed i needed to copy the C:\WINDOW\SYSTEM\PRECOPY on the com. I did but when i press ok it come back,it is not accepting it i dont

I have an older PC (~ 4 y/o). It's a Micron Millennia w/ a P2 inside. I yanked out the old internal disk, which was attached to the "Primary IDE" channel. I want to attach my new Maxtor (80GB ATA/133) to it as the primary/boot drive.

When performing disk cleanup I notice that I have 214 hidden files using 48mb of space. Is this normal or is it an indication of a problem? I am not aware of what hidden files are at all - are they system generated or where do
