I understand that there is a special command to retain
existing drivers whilst formatting the hard disk. What is
the command.

my machine's hard drive runs constantly when idle. Not
just for a minute or two, but constantly.
Anyone know the problem? Does win 98 have some kind of
automatic indexing function that I can turn off?

I using an IBM laptop with Win98.  After being idle, the
computer went into sleep mode.  From there, it never woke up!
Received I9990301 error. Per IBM website, this is a hard disk
error.

Windows update shows no updates for my win 98 machine. I
have not run an update since 2001. I run update on win 98
at work all the time...same release version. what is wrong?

I created some folders for my own use. I don't wan't
others to view that particular folders. I tried searching
for any password protection in Help, but i found nothing.

I have an IBM laptop that went to sleep and never woke
up!  I continue to get I9990301 error (no start up device).
I am able to boot with rescue disk, but when trying fdisk,
I get an error:  Error reading fixed disk

black screen with the words:"disc I/O error  replace the
disc and press any key to continue".  Nothing was done to
the computer overnight.

I start to defrag and a message comes up to run scan disk
for I have a problem. So I run scan disk and about 3/4 of
the way thru it freezes and I have to reboot. Any
suggestions?

Some hard drive labels such as I:, J: etc disapeeared from
Windows Explorer and there is information on those drives.
What to do to restore
