Lost Registration after Reformatting26 Dec 2003 19:06 GMT2
After doing a complete reformat on their Gateway, my
daughter realized they lost the original Win98 book so she
doesn't have the original registration number to put back
in...any suggestions?

When I try to run a scan disk I keep getting an error
message saying that is has had to stop because somethiong
was writing to the drive. After 10 times I disaalow the
erro message and after many hours the scan disk does

ok guys, thanks for the info. but, i went back this
morning to try again, and now, at 7 percent, it gives
me: "Not Ready / Format terminated." This is really
getting on my nerves, i've formatted my hard drive many

When I put a CD into the machine and try to run the d
drive, it says not accessible. I have made sure in
properties, the box is ck'd for autorun, but nothing. I

I installed an SIIG firwire card which has been recognized
properly by my 98 system, but it does not recognize the 80
gig firewire external drive attached.

second without pause. Always at the same rate. Happens
whether or not other programs are opened. How can I stop

I'm writing this on behalf of a friend.
His laptop (IBM Thinkpad, unsure of the model) has only
one 6 Gb hard drive, running Windows 98, partitioned
roughly in the middle. I'm familiar with the Fdisk tool,

Hi there, after updating the BIOS of my ASUS P/I-P55T2P4,
my mobo registers the new WD400JB-00ENAO (40GB/7600rpm/8MB-
buffer) correctly, but Win 98SE states the capacity of the
3 partitions as 3.89+1.94+1.97=7.9GB only. With the help

i'm trying to format my c: drive, and whenever it reaches
20 percent it gives me an error stating: "Trying to
recover allocation unit      246,682". Does anyone know
what the problem is? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
