I just installed a CD-RW drive which shows up as Drive G.
When I try to run backup jobs and append them on the same
CD the append option is not available. MS says that W98
will not allow an append if there is not a "Backup

My next door neighbor has run Win98 for about 18 months
without incident.  Just in the last couple of days, he has
been suddenly unable to boot, except via Startup Disk.  
Win98 gives this msg:  

Trying to defrag my hard drive, but nothing happens.  It
gets stuck on checking disk for errors.  When I tried to
scan disk, I have the same problem.  Something keeps
writing to the drive and causes the program to start all

using w98SE ...after scandisk .. windows automatically
create a new folder for me such as DIR00008. why is that ?

Since I activated the DMA check boxes of my 2 hds which
are dma-capable (Hd->properties in hardware manager) my
system crashes when loading the windows drivers. Booting
into safe mode is possible but here the DMA check boxes

laptop that is about 5 years old that became
somewhat "contaminated".  I was told by Dell to reformat
my hard drive, which I did, and reinstall Windows98.  

Purchased a new CDRW.
My old "HOTBURN" software will not recognize the drive as
a CDRW.
Installed new burn software "NERO" provided with drive.
