What on earth is going on? So many people with similar
complaints. I also get the message, while defragging, that
drives contents changed etc. Now if scandisk runs at
startup it finds an error and instructs me to run scandisk

I'm using Windows 98 and the file Wupdater is not
responding which means I can't defragment the hard drive.
The defragmenter keeps stoping and restarting.
I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions.

 I'm a librarian and last year my daughter was given one
of our old computers, a Compaq Deskpro, for Christmas.
What we need to do is start over with this computer. So
much garbage has been downloaded onto it from people using

memeory?  I just replaced my 256 stick and everyting runs
nice and snappy.  Is 128 of memory being wasted?

I have a Windows98 SE system that started with a Sanyo 20X CDROM player
connected to the secondary IDE controller as a master.  I installed a 48X
CD/RW as a slave connected to the hard drive on the primary IDE controller.
Windows loads.  I then installed the Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 ...
Disk Defragmenter doesn't go past 1%01 Feb 2004 22:59 GMT8
Everytime my disk defragmenter runs it only goes to 1% and
then goes back to 0% and never goes any further preventing
the defragmentation process to continue.  No error
messages are indicated and and I have all critical updates

Installed a MediaStor CD-R/RW 52x-24x-52x CD writer and
cannot write to it using NERO, NTI Cd Maker 2000 plus, or
Windows Explorer.  I get a number of different error
messages.  One is that I do not have permission to write
