I was given a used computer and when I turn it on it runs
through the normal checks and then before Windows comes up
it gives me a message that says:  DISK BOOT FAILURE,
INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

Here's the story:

I had to short the battery on the motherboard to reset the
password. now, the cd-rom and the other hard drive are not

my computer no longer see's drive f or e and i cannot
update without the cd drive. also at the same time i
cannot  run disk defrag. my system seems to be running but

can no longer access my D-Drive. The message "D:\is not
accessible" and "The device is not ready" appear. Hard
disc controllers and CD-Rom set up is OK in control panel.

New NU-Tech dvd burner can't see a blank disc. Its too
early to give up on the burner.  Are the some settings
that I need to change?  I using a 4-year old Pentium 3
system with Windows 98SE.

to second edition or milleneum in order to run some new

My hard drive & partitions all read as MSDOS
compatibility mode, and the CDRW/DVD drive is not shown
in Windows 98SE, so I cannot access it. (It was the H:
drive).

I have a 98SE boot disk.  Booted to the A drive.  Hit
shift F5 to get me to DOS prompt.  Entered in format c: at
the prompt and keep receiving error message "invalid
