Laptop stopped booting to Windows98. It stopped booting with a C: prompt and 0 (zero) directories were shown when typing the dos dir command. Booted to A drive with a start-up disk. Ran scandisk.

My hard drive was erased or formatted. I have my windows 98 disks but the computer does not recognize their is a CD drive. I have no a: boot disk. If you can give me advise as to how to proceed, I would appreciate it.

Guys... I know for a fact if you want to write sector by sector from the beginning to end of an hard drive, it may be very fast. Defrag is very slow indeed.

When doing a disk defrag, the process continues to restart due to a write occurring to the hard drive. I do not know how to stop this problem.
