How do I uninstall Windows if I can't get out of DOS?

I have an allocation file preventing my norton defrag. to
work.system mechanic says,but windows defrag does.Norton
is 2x fasterthan windows so  I prefer norton.Can you help??

Sorry for my late reply - tried scanreg /restore and got
bad command or file name message. Any other suggestions?

I am running Win 98 second edition and when I run scan
disk it tells me it restarts 10 times.
I boot to safe mode and the same thing happens.
Any ideas what is wrong and how to fix it?

I am having difficulty loading WIN 98 OS to a used DELL
Latitude CPx. The hard drive had been wiped and I am
starting from new. Can anyone help with the sequencing of

I am installing an additonal 120gb hard disk to my Win
98SE system. Should I or must I partition it? What are the

does 98se recognize ntsf. I have a new hard drive to
install, and I need to format it as ntsf.

Can anyone tell me how or where I can get another windows
98 system cd?  Mine is cracked in half.  I can't run
anything because I was in the middle of reinstallation
and it cracked while spinning in the cd-rom.  6 year old

I still use an older pc with 2 hd's and win 98 2nd.
The first disk 10 GB the second 30 GB.
Both hooked to the same ide controller.
Worked fine for about 2 years.

I've fdisked a drive (40GB) and erased the primary Dos
partition successfully. When I try to create a new partion
the verification process semms to hang, never getting
beyond 0%. Does this mean the disc is damaged or has been

trying to install game of 2gb into c drive but not enough
space.i also have a d drive with space can i put the 2
together to create space.the game as 2 disc but will only
install 1

during windows start up the following message appears,
could not find 'main16.exe' specified in WIN.INI file
I have reloade windows (98) tried to find file to no avail.
Seems to be a system32 file.
