When trying to run either Scan Disk or Defrag my system
seems to get caught in a loop without completing either of
them.
Can anyone help with a fix.  Thanks, Paul

This program is under my Windows/System folder.  Is it
necessary?
The reason I'm asking is that it appears to be causing my
active screen to become grayed out on the title line

Am getting ready to clean and re-do computer.  Want to dual boot
Win98SE and XP and also install 98 in a third partition to use for
trying out programs.  Know how to dual boot install, but unsure how to
add the second copy of 98.  Any advice is welcome.  TIA

When I attempt to run ScanDisk or Disk Defragmenter

I am having scandisk problems.
When I scandisk, I get the following message:
scandisk has restarted 10 times because Windows or another
program has been writing to this drive.

I get the message that scandisk has restated 10 times. I
checked and only had explorer runing . I was in the safe
mode at the time. How can I find outwhat programs are
trying to right to the hard drive when I am in the safe

My scan disk keeps restarting after 10 times and tells me that a task is
running
Is there software that I can find to help me identify that task ?

defrag will stop and start, I am told to quit a program
but I can't find one - tried cntl-alt-del and also showing
hidden files and folders then deleting APPLOG from
c:/windows still no change, please can one of you clever

I think I have duplicate files-how can I check to find out

I am running Win 98 SE.  Lately, when I start Windows, I
get a RUNDLL message box saying the program cannot find
2ndsrch.dll.  
I've looked and the file does exist in C:\Windows\SYSTEM.

have a laptop with Windows 98 SE. I am having problems
